# Happy Birthday, Chen and Liang!!-
On the 9th of October this year, Chen turns 18. We, who happened to be some of his close friends, of course have to be celebrate this very special day with him.
The day before his birthday, I called him up and asked him who did he wanna invite? As usual, he wanted us to decide for him. So, I did the decision-making part for him. He wanted to have a lunch with his close pals, so I sms-ed Hou, Siong, Yon, and Laobu, who'll contact Ching and Laobe (Chunjing, he's my 'new' dad, ^.^). I told Chen to show up at one o'clock but I told the rest to come at 11.30 am.
Well, I was supposed to wake up at around 10 o'clock in the morning, which I really did when I got a call from Hou. After I took a glimpse of the clock which read 10.10 am, I went back into bed to get some more sleep. Another phone call from Hou woke me up and it was 11.10 am. I rushed into the bathroom and when I came out again, another phone call from Hou.
When I was driving out of my house, the cars on the road all seemed to be in rush and that made me missed the first U-turn. I gotta drive further to get to another U-turn which was on a hill. That, I guess, took three minutes of my time. When I reached Hou's house, he didn't come down when I honked. I reached there at 11.37 am (that's what my clock said...) and he came down at 11.43 am.
"I honked five to six times, didn't you hear it?" I asked with impatience.
"I just heard one honk though," he replied.
I was gonna continue to argue with him. Forget it, I thought.
"Oh, can you bring me to my mom's office?"
Shit!
I drove him to his office for him to get some cash from his mom. Then we headed to Siong's place, which I reckoned he might be there waiting for me to pick him up. But he'd already left, then I guess it was kinda my fault for not telling him in the first place. Anyways, by the time we reached Gadong, it was 12 pm and we were 30 minutes late. No one was there at McD, I asked Hou to call them up. He insisted on messaging, which I thought would take some time. They showed up eventually and we went to present-hunting
When we bought everything within our budget and were on our way returning to McD, Chen, Yon and Laobe were sitting there waiting for us to come. I handed him the present and gave him a little birthday hug. When we all settled, I asked Chen where did he wanna have lunch at. He couldn't make up his mind. We were heading to Swenson's when he suddenly said he ate there the day before. So, we changed venue and had our lunch at Pizza Hut Primo.
We ate, drank and chatted until 3 something. When the bill came, I was shocked. It was a bit too pricey, although Chen was the one paying. I ached, for his wallet. Ouch!
We went up to the cinema and saw that The Host was showing at 3.55 pm. The time shown on the wall clock was 3.57 pm. We still had time, so we bought the ticket and rushed into the cinema. It was perfect timing, cuz it just started.
The Host was actually about a creature that emerged from South Korea's Han River. The creature was mutated because of some dumb-ass American scientist insisted on pouring all the toxic chemicals into the drain. The other Korean scientist, who obviously was inferior in his position, couldn't do anything much but to follow the order. Anyway, the creature was a bit of everything, somewhat like a frog/fish/lizard. It came up from the Han River six years after the pouring of toxic chemicals and it seemed it was hunting for food though.
The main character, Park Gang-du's daughter Hyun-seo was taken by the creature. They all assumed that Hyun-seo died, until she called Gang-du in the middle of the night. He told the police and they all treated him like lunatics of course. So, Gang-du and his family escaped from the hospital (they were taken to the hospital because they saw or contacted with the creature, and the government thought that the creature was a host to a hybrid virus of SARS and something else.).
They used all their assets to buy guns and a car equipped with disinfectant to search Hyun-seo in the sewers of Han River. Gang-du's father was killed and he was taken back to the hospital. His brother, Nam-il and sister, Nam-joo continued to look for Hyun-seo. Nam-il found his friend was working in the telecom to trace Hyun-seo's call to Gang-du but his friend was planning to turn Nam-il in to the police to get the reward. Nam-il escaped, with a broken arm. Before he blacked-out, he sent a message to Nam-joo. After receiving the message, Nam-joo rushed to Wonbyo Bridge where Hyun-seo was.
She didn't make it (she was knocked out by the creature when she was trying to shoot it) but Gang-du did (he escaped again, this time with a hostage.). By the time he saw Hyun-seo, she was in the creature's mouth. He managed to pull her out its mouth but she didn't seem be breathing. The creature was affected by the government's biological weapon and Gang-du killed it with a pole that went into its mouth.
The movie was good, critics said that it was the best monster movie ever. I never come across Korean monster movie, this was the first and it definitely was top-notch.
Anyways, when we came out of the cinema. We were going to Excapade when Laobu got a call from Ming. Ming wanted to go to karaoke, so we went and cancelled our table at Excapade. But Big Thumb was full, so we headed back to Excapade and had our dinner there. My lil' brother was having his dinner there as well and he has the same birthday with Chen. So I went back and forth in two rooms.
We left at around 10 something, I guess. Chen brought some presents back but I brought my tiredness home. Anyway, Happy Birthday Chen and Liang!!!
